The  Philippines  failed to duplicate its 83-72 win over the Japanese in the second round. The Olsen Racela-mentored squad, which entered the final round with a 5-0 card, also dropped its second straight game in the tournament following a 67-58 setback to South Korea in the semifinals Thursday night. They duplicated the fourth-place finish of the Kiefer Ravena-led Under-16  Philippine team in 2009 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. China and South Korea, which both qualified for the FIBA U17 World Championship in Lithuania in 2012, are still playing for the gold medal as of posting time. Philippines U16 - Japan U16 83:72 Philippines entered the U16 Asia Championship quarterfinal stage undefeated. They wrapped up their Qualifying Round campaign with victory over Japan.  Rodolfo Alejandro  (175-G-95) stepped up with 36 points to lead the winners. Philippines thus clinched the top spot in Group F. Japan finished second with only one loss to their record. Japan overcame a sloppy start to take a 22:21 lead after ten minutes. But Philippines pulled ahead early in the second term. They finished the half strongly establishing a 48:36 lead. Philippines kept Japan at bay throughout the third term. They arrived at the final break up by as many as 13 points 70:57. The margin grew at 16-point mark midway through the final stanza. They drubbed Indonesia in the opener.  Rodolfo Alejandro  (175-G-95) and Kyles Jefferson posted 15 points each to pace the winners. Indonesia on the other hand suffered the first defeat at the tournament and fell at 1-1 record. Philippines looked dominant from start to finish. They posted a 27:9 lead ten minutes into the game. The Philippine Azkals outclass Nepal, 4-0, in their friendly match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Tuesday. Phil Younghusband scored 2 goals for the Philippine squad, while his brother, James Younghusband, and Matthew Hartmann struck the 2 other goals. Phil's first goal, which came off a pass by Paul Mulders, pulled the hosts ahead, 1-0. In the 29th minute, James rifled in a long-range strike that nutmegged a Nepalese defender and evaded the outstretched arms of the opposing goalkeeper. It resulted in the Azkals enjoying a 2-0 advantage, but the goalfest didn't end there. Phil struck his second goal in the 54th minute that sent the Filipino crowd in a cheering frenzy.
