Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas bows down to Iran, 77-60.

TOKYO – Smart Gilas Pilipinas went scoreless in a crucial stretch in the second half and failed to recover, botching a shot at the FIBA Asia Cup finals with a 60-77 loss to Iran at the Ota Gymnasium here today. The Nationals were down by only three at 47-50 before going on a dry spell for over four minutes, allowing the Iranians to build momentum for the 17-point victory and a crack at the coveted crown. Host Japan and Qatar were playing for the other final berth as of posting time. Numerous lapses dogged the Filipinos early on, preventing them from sustaining the heat of their 17-11 start. Then came an incident that banished a teammate and fired him up for good. The result was David exploding for 37 points, lifting Powerade past B-MEG for the second straight game 131-123 in overtime to crash the semifinals of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. LA Galaxy scores clinical win over PHL Azkals, 6-1 The Los Angeles Galaxy turned up the heat in the second half to beat the Philippine Azkals, 6-1, in their “Dream Cup” exhibition game at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The Galaxy showed the   Filipino   fans why they are the 2011 Major League Soccer champions, scoring 4 goals against the Azkals in the second half alone. The Azkals actually put up a commendable   defense   against the Galaxy during   the first 20 minutes of the game. But football superstar David Beckham worked his magic by scoring a beautiful shot in the 20th minute. Beckham bent the ball, which looped its way past Azkals goalkeeper Eduard Sacapano. The shot was followed up by another Galaxy strike, this time by Mike Magee, hiking Los Angeles’ lead to 2-0.
