Despite of gloomy and rainy afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, it proved to be a blessing in disguise for the Philippine National Football Team Azkals to annihilate the visiting Sri Lankan Football Team, 4-0(with an aggregated goals of 5-1) in their second round match of 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Top Azkals footballers Phil Younghusband, Emelio Caligdong and Angel Guirado leads the team to victory.

Azkals crush Sri Lanka, face Kuwait in 2nd round

(Updated 4:58 p.m.) Phil Younghusband scored twice while Chieffy Caligdong and Angel Guirado added one each as the Philippine Azkals crushed Sri Lanka, 4-0, in their 2014 World Cup Asia group playoffs home tie at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Younghusband scored on a direct free kick in the 56th minute. He made his first goal in the 43rd minute of the firs half.

Caligdong gave the Philippines a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute of the opening half to set the tone of the match. Filipino-Spanish midfielder Angel Guirado made it 3-0 in the 50th minute.

The Philippines won the first round tie with a 4-1 aggregate score over Sri Lanka. The first leg of the Philippines-Sri Lanka qualifying match ended in a 1-1 draw in Colombo. 

The Philippines will face Kuwait in the second round of the 2014 World Cup Asia qualifiers.
