South Korea - Philippines 70:68

South Korea snatched a tough win over Philippines in the consolation final battle at the Asian Championship. Cho Sung-Min (189-F-83) scored 20 points to pace the winners.
Philippines gained a 14:7 lead after ten minutes of action. Jimmy Alapag (177-G-77, college: Cal.St.-San Bernar.) gave the Filipino team an 18:7 lead midway through the second term. They maintained the lead and arrived at the interval up by as many as 7 points 24:17. Williams made it 30:19 for Philippines early in the third term. South Korea answered with a 9:1 run to cut the deficit. Philippines however picked up the slack and earned a 47:36 advantage at the final intermission. But it was Cho Sung-Min who gave necessary spark for South Korea. He unleashed 15 points in the fourth frame as South Korea pulled ahead and sealed a narrow win at the end. Kim Joo-Sung (205-F/C-79) posted 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Oh Sek-Eun (200-C-87) added 9 points in the win. Marcus Douthit (210-C/F-80, agency: Edge Sports, college: Providence) answered with 27 points and 22 rebounds for Philippines. Jimmy Alapag provided 17 points in the loss.

PS:I understand how painful it is to lose back-to-back games that could have put our team into the finals, but we have to remember that this is the price that we have to pay for having an ambition such as this.

This is all part of the growing process and we have to understand that it's not easy for our players to don the colors of the national team, with millions of Filipinos hoping and praying that they would deliver.

This might be our best chance for a podium finish in FIBA-Asia, but let's not discount how hard it is to reach this level these days. To be at the Final Four in this region after 24 years is already a very big achievement.

Being a Top Four squad in Asia is something that we should be proud of. We still believe! We're one team, it's Team Pilipinas!
