B-Meg Derby Ace dealt's Smart Gilas Pilipinas' first defeat, 98-90 in OT.
I'm sure, the PBA Fantards are rejoicing now because finally, a PBA team has defeated Smart Gilas Pilipinas. Who the hell are they? Gilas is our national team for Pete's sake and the reason for joining the PBA is for their training and to add playing in a different system(PBA should have used the FIBA Rules).
Anyways, B-Meg Derby Aces dealt's Smart Gilas Pilipinas first defeat in 2011 PBA Commissioner's Cup, 98-90 in OT. The odds were heavily stacked against it, but severely undermanned B-MEG Derby Ace refused to be daunted.

In what could be his farewell performance, Shamari Spears came up with a conference-high 26 points.
But the likes of PJ Simon and KG Canaleta left the biggest marks in helping the Llamados fashion the win that had seemed unlikely.
Simon, who wound up with 20 points, scored the first five points of overtime and that buoyed Derby Ace’s confidence no end while seemingly rattling the Nationals, who went 2-for-9 from the field and committed two turnovers in the extension.
JV Casio’s conversion of a Chris Tiu steal and assist made it a 90-93 game, but Canaleta spiked a 13-point, seven-rebound performance with a triple from the right corner that pegged a six-point lead for the Llamados, only 50 seconds left.
Derby Ace’s third win in seven games was finally clinched when Marc Pingris capped his 18 points and game-high 19 rebounds with an undergoal stab.
It was the first loss in six games for Gilas and readily attributable to the fact 6-foot-11 Marcus Douthit was unable to finish the game due to a left ankle sprain he suffered off a bad landing just past the midway point of the third period.
Llamados coach Jorge Gallent said there was satisfaction enough in notching the win since he had seven players either sidelined by injuries or nursing them, led by top scorer James Yap.
“I feel great because of the win,” maintained Gallent. “There was no special drive to beat Gilas. The plan was just to beat whoever is out there on the court and I think we had a good gameplan and minalas din sila dahil they lost a 6-10 (guy).”
After cutting short their two-game slide, the Llamados also moved up to at least a tie for sixth-running spot and now have brighter prospects of advancing to the playoffs.
“Our chances became better now,” noted Gallent. “If we had lost, our chances would have been really slim but now they became a bit better. Mga 50-50 na again, unlike coming into this game na mga 30-70 lang.”
Mac Baracael, Tiu and Douthit substitute Greg Slaughter tried to pick up the slack, but they were unable to get enough support from the rest of their teammates.
Baracael finished with 19 points and Tiu 16 points and six rebounds, highlighted by a defensive rebound and a court-to-court charge for a reverse layup that pegged an 86-all count that stood until the end of regulation. Douthit and Marcio Lassiter chipped in 14 points each but Casio, fresh from a 29-point game in Gilas’ 99-94 win over Rain or Shine last Friday, managed only six.
The absence of Douthit, usually good for 21.8 points, 19.4 rebounds and 3.2 shot blocks, since the 5:24 mark of the third period clearly told on Gilas as it was badly beaten off the boards 49-70.
Slaughter had a season-high seven blocks, but he was often taken to school by Kerby Raymundo, Canaleta and Pingris from the post.
Spears added eight rebounds and his tap on the ball that went off Tiu’s leg and into out-of-bounds gave possession to Derby Ace in the last 22 seconds of regulation. But Simon missed a potential winner just before the buzzer.
Expected to come in Friday for Derby Ace’s Sunday game against San Miguel Beer is Spears replacement, Courtney Beasley.
With Tiu and Baracael hitting their stride early, Gilas shrugged off the loss of Douthit to take as much as a 63-53 lead before Raymundo and Canaleta joined hands to bring Derby Ace within 63-67 going into the fourth. (NC)
