Field Service Engineer:Job Description.

The name of my profession is Field Service Engineer, I'm currently working at an IT Services Provider Company, specializing on Electronic Banking, E-Commerce, Customer Relations, Networking and Communications Installation, ATM Maintenance and EFT-POS Services. The general term Field Service Engineer is no limited to IT Industry only, it also centers on field maintenance work, on-site inspections, machineries and equipment orientation and high risk jobs. Here are some of the job descriptions and objectives of being a Field Service Engineer.

Installs and repairs electronic equipment, such as computer, radar, missile-control, avionics, and communication systems, in field installations: Consults with customer or supervisor to plan layout of equipment. 

Studies blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures. Installs or oversees installation of equipment according to manufacturer's specifications. Operates system to demonstrate equipment and to analyze malfunctions. Interprets maintenance manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools. Instructs and directs workers in servicing and repairing equipment. Consults with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance. May instruct workers in electronic theory. May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance. May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements


As a field service engineer, you would support the activities of the Customer Service and Sales departments by traveling to customer sites for the purpose of installing, troubleshooting and repairing both hardware and/or software products.

#Primary Responsibilities:

1:Assists with special projects, assignments, and programs as needed or directed.
2:Assists sales representatives in communicating features, benefits, mechanics and operation of the new product(s).
3:May provide computer based classroom as well as hands on operational and maintenance training.
4:Performs onsite process testing. This often requires interaction with customer’s systems, third party vendors (such as chemical/polymer suppliers).
5:Support pilot programs in Chemical Dosing Products, Centrifuges, Filter Presses, etc. as required with prospective customers.
6:Handle warranty claims, working hand-in-hand with the customer on RMA’s.
7:May be asked to service all Engineered Products product lines and new technologies.
8:Performs complex and specialized corrective and preventative maintenance work on equipment.
9:Trouble shoot and resolve moderate to complex application problems including, but not limited to: electrical, mechanical, gas, hydraulic and process issues at our customer locations.

  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)specialising in the design, development, construction and operation of HVAC systems.
  • Electrical technology: specialising in the design and development of electrical systems required for safe and energy sustaining operation of buildings.
